History
Smoky River Further Education Council was formed in the Fall of 1974. Members on the Committee came from different organizations such as schools in the area, Alberta Agriculture, Town of Falher, Town of McLennan, Preventative Social Services, Service Familial, Service d’animation, High Prairie School Division No.48, Falher Consolidated School Division No. 69 and Smoky River Area Recreation.

September 27, 1974
Started offering adult continuing education courses under the name of: Smoky River Further Education Council.
First President, Vice-President & Secretary-Treasurer elected.
October 1976
Falher Consolidated School Division No. 69 became the
1st Designated Hosting Authority.
First Coordinator was hired.
September 1977
First Policies, Procedures and Guidelines were given to the Board.
Fall 1990
Office opened in the Alberta Vocational Centre Building in Falher.
Spring 1991
Council is approved to run the first Literacy Program in Smoky River Region
January 1994
Name of Council changed to: Smoky River Community Adult Learning and Literacy Program.
February 1994
New Designated Hosting Authority is High Prairie School Division No. 48.
June 1996
New Designated Hosting Authority is The Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130.
December 2004
Bylaws went under a major revision and policies and guidelines were developed.
November 2017
Name was changed to Smoky River Adult Learning.
2021
As of 2021 Smoky River Adult Learning is legally hosted by the MD of Smoky River No. 130. There is a main office located in the MD Building in Falher as well as a satellite office located at the Northern Lakes College McLennan Campus. There is currently 1 Executive Director and 1 Assistant Coordinator.
